Setting up your profile: products, services, and keywords
Learn how to set up your InstantMarkets profile with your products, services, keywords, and NAICS codes for better search results.
Setting up your profile: products, services, and keywords
Your profile tells InstantMarkets what your business does — and the platform uses that information to improve search relevance and suggest opportunities that are a good match.
Why your profile matters
A well-filled profile means:
- Search results are pre-filtered for relevance
- Saved searches and alerts are easier to set up
- You spend less time wading through irrelevant listings
How to update your profile
- Click your account menu (top-right) and select Profile Settings.
- Fill in the fields described below.
- Click Save when done.
Profile fields
Business name
Your registered business or DBA name. This is used for display purposes only and is not shared publicly.
Industry
Select the industry or sector that best describes your business. You can choose more than one.
Products and services
List the specific products or services you offer. Be as concrete as possible — for example:
- "janitorial supplies"
- "IT staffing"
- "environmental consulting"
Vague entries like "consulting" or "services" will produce noisier results.
Keywords
Add any additional search terms that describe what you sell — including brand names, product codes, or common procurement terms buyers use. For example, a pest control company might add: "pest management", "rodent control", "IPM", "extermination".
NAICS codes
If you know your NAICS code(s), add them here. Many government opportunities are categorized by NAICS, and matching your codes improves alert accuracy significantly.
Geography
Select the states or regions where you actively pursue contracts. InstantMarkets uses this to weight search results toward your target markets.
Tips
- You can update your profile at any time — changes take effect on your next search.
- If your alerts feel off-target, revisiting your keywords and NAICS codes is usually the fastest fix.
- Adding multiple NAICS codes is fine if your business spans categories.
