Using advanced search filters

Advanced filters let you narrow your search results to only the opportunities that match your business — by agency, geography, opportunity type, NAICS code, and more.

Accessing filters

After running any search, the filters panel appears on the left side of the results page. You can expand or collapse individual filter sections. Filters are applied immediately when selected; there's no separate "Apply" button.

To clear all filters at once, click Clear all filters at the top of the panel.

Agency type

Filter by the kind of government entity issuing the opportunity:

  • Federal — U.S. federal agencies (DoD, GSA, HHS, etc.)
  • State — state-level agencies and departments
  • County — county governments
  • City / Municipality — city and town governments
  • School district — K-12 school districts
  • Higher education — universities and community colleges
  • Special district — utilities, transit authorities, water districts, etc.
  • Nonprofit / quasi-governmental — housing authorities, port authorities, etc.

You can select multiple types. Selecting none returns all types.

Region / Geography

Filter to opportunities from specific states or regions. Click a state name to include it; click again to remove it. A map view is also available — click the Map tab in the geography filter.

For finer geographic filtering, see Searching by geography or region.

Opportunity type

Limit results to specific solicitation formats:

  • RFP (Request for Proposal)
  • RFQ (Request for Quotation)
  • RFI (Request for Information)
  • ITB / IFB (Invitation to Bid / Invitation for Bid)
  • Pre-bid / Pre-solicitation notice
  • Award notice
  • Contract

See Understanding Opportunity Types for an explanation of each.

NAICS code

Enter one or more NAICS codes to filter to opportunities tagged with those codes. Start typing a code or description and select from the autocomplete suggestions.

Tip: Not all agencies tag their opportunities with NAICS codes. Using NAICS as your only filter may exclude relevant opportunities. Combine it with keywords for best results.

Keyword within results

After running a search, you can add a secondary keyword filter to search within your current results — useful for pinning down a large result set.

Due date

Use the date range picker to filter to opportunities closing within a specific window — for example, "closing in the next 30 days."

Combining filters

Filters stack: each one further narrows the result set. A typical power-user setup might combine geography (state), agency type (school districts), opportunity type (RFP), and a NAICS code to produce a highly targeted feed.
